Mamelodi Sundowns made it eight wins from eight matches in the DStv Premiership with a 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday evening.
Masandawana had Mothobi Mvala back from suspension and afforded him a start but the other returnee in Khuliso Mudau was named on the bench, as Reyaad Pieterse got a rare run out in goal for the hosts.
The Maroons stunned the league leaders on 13 minutes when a run in-behind from Andre De Jong brought Pieterse in a spot of bother and saw Devon Titus on hand to find the roof of the net.
Sundowns looked to go level ahead of the closing quarter of the first half and had a chance from the head by Peter Shalulile following a free-kick, but he went over.
Masandawana evened up matters ten minutes before the break after Grant Keka ran to the back-post following a loose ball from a corner-kick and side-footed in the near corner.
The equaliser revived the host, who went ahead five minutes to halftime when Aubrey Modiba won a free-kick on the edge of the area and stepped up to find the top corner with a lovely effort.
In the second half, Sundowns lead were under threat as a first-time shot from the cusp of the area by Sihle Ndluli rattled the crossbar before going behind.
However, the Brazilians were unfazed by the scare moments apart and had Thapelo Maseko’s snap shot from a tight angle left of the box shave the near corner.
Sundowns looked to consolidate the lead as the half settled and introduced Sphelele Mkhulise for Morena before Junior Mendieta made way for Lebohang Maboe.
Masandawana wrapped up the points in added time when Shalulile unselfishly laid off a low pass to young Siyabonga Mabena to tap in and open his account for the club.
The win was the Brazilians’ eighth in a row in the league and also saw them set a new record for the longest unbeaten run in the league (32), overtaking Kaizer Chiefs’ record of 31 games without a loss.
