A former Orlando Pirates star has revealed he found out he was leaving the Buccaneers through social media.

The Soweto giants had defender Ayanda Gcaba on their books from 2012 to 2018, before loaning him to Platinum Stars halfway through the 2017/18 season.

Gcaba didn’t fit coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s plans and along with the likes of Riyaad Norodien, Abbubaker Mobara and Mpho Makola, they were moved on.

“A lot of the players went out (on loan) and the rest followed. I went out and the rest followed, like Norodien, Mobara, Nyauza, Makola a lot of players left that season. Even the others left before,” Gcaba told Sports Night Amplified with Andile.

Gcaba has revealed no one from the club came to speak to him and he found through social portals, similar to his former Pirates players Mpho Makola.

“I’m one person who don’t like it when I go and ask because it’s like I need validation of some sort. If someone’s paying for my services, they are okay with my services,” Gcaba said.

“I’m one person that accepts and move on, when I listened to Mpho Makola speaking to Mr Rob (Robert Marawa), a while back on how he left, it was the same way (how I left Pirates).

“No one came and explained why am I leaving. So, I just found out from the social media and asked my agent what happened. I’m leaving the team or is the team releasing me. Without knowing what you’ve done because you have been training with the team and been working hard,” he added.

The now 37-year-old turned out for Royal Eagles (now Royal AM), Jomo Cosmos and Sinenkani in the lower tier following his departure from the Buccaneers.

He featured 115 times for the Buccaneers, scoring seven goals and helped them to win the 2014 Nedbank Cup.
