THE Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade (IFPYB) has distanced themselves from the malicious statement circulating on social media stating that they rally behind Umkhokha: The Curse actor, Kini Shandu after his recent utterances against women.

The fake statement, which Daily Sun has seen, states that the IFP youth wing wants people to leave Kini alone and they support him all the way.

The youth brigade has identified the person spreading the malicious statement and they have opened a case of defamation of character against him.

Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade members marched to Estcourt Police Station to open a case.

IFPYB KZN chairman, Mncedisi Maphisa, said they believe this fake statement was made with malicious intent towards the youth brigade and in particular, its leadership.

“As the IFPYB in KZN, we’re taking this matter seriously, and as such, legal action has been pursued against the alleged individual whom we have unmasked. A criminal case of defamation of character was opened on Wednesday, 10 January at Estcourt Police Station,” he said.

Maphisa said as they’re gearing up for the 2024 general elections and they fully understand and are ready for all malicious intent, actions and activities that the enemies of their organisation will undertake to dent their party.

“While the said statement was issued in the name of the IFPYB in KZN, we wish to caution the public that any media statements that are not published on the official IFP Youth Brigade social media platforms are not a legitimate source of information from the IFPYB,” he said.

Kini has been under fire after making a post on Facebook that devalued women and that didn’t sit well with many female activists. He later withdrew his statement and issued an apology.

KZN police spokesman Colonel Robert Neitshuinda said the police in Estcourt have opened a cybercrime case after a 33-year-old man reported that someone was impersonating him and spreading false information about him.

He said investigations are ongoing.
