A 61-year-old pensioner was gunned down on Saturday, 27 July.
A CASH truck security officer, involved in the fatal shooting of a 61-year-old pensioner at an ATM in Ecaleni Section, Thembisa, is due to appear in court on Monday, 29 July.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 27 July when madala was attempting to withdraw cash.
It’s reported that the pensioner approached the ATM just as the cash truck arrived.
As standard security protocol, people in the queue were asked to step back.
However, the situation escalated when madala allegedly didn’t comply, leading to a physical altercation with the security officer.
During the confrontation, the officer’s firearm was accidentally discharged, resulting in the pensioner’s death.

Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
The incident has sparked mixed reaction among bystanders. Some demanded justice for the pensioner, while others expressed sympathy towards the officer, citing the high crime rate and frequent targeting of cash trucks in South Africa.
Xolani Shine, a witness at the scene, said: “There’s too much crime in the country, and money trucks are targeted. Their guns are always ready. It’s wise to move out of the way when you see them.”
Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that the 32-year-old security officer was arrested and charged with murder.
“He’s expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate Court today,” Masondo said.
