A 32-YEAR-OLD man handed himself over to the police on Wednesday afternoon, 1 May, following the death of his girlfriend in Madodonga Village, Limpopo, on Friday, 26 April.

The suspect, who had been on the run since Friday after he allegedly killed his girlfriend Rinah Malange (30), handed himself over to the Tshilwavhusiku police.

According to Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the suspect, arrested on rape and attempted murder charges, was released on bail on the same day of the incident.

The Malange family spokeswoman Rachel Ntshenge (49) told Daily Sun the family breathed a sigh of relief following the suspect’s arrest.

“We slept peacefully yesterday because we were not free. We were always fearing for our lives and now we can continue with funeral arrangements,” Rachel said.

Ledwaba said the police responded to a complaint of murder at the village.

“Upon arrival where the victim stayed with her boyfriend, we found her in the bedroom lying in a pool of blood with several stab wounds on the upper body,” said Ledwaba.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was stabbed with a sharp object and repeatedly hit with a hard object.

“The man has been on the run since the day of the incident. Motive behind this horrific act is unknown at this stage and police investigations are underway,” Ledwaba said.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrates Court soon facing a charge of murder.
