Kaizer Chiefs bowed out of the Carling Knockout following a 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki gave starts to Njabulo Ngcobo, Ranga Chivaviro, Keagan Dolly, while Edson Castillo started on the bench following their loss to Cape Town City.

It was bright start where the two set of teams looked to go on the front-foot in the hope of the early lead, but the defences from either team kept an extremely tight shape.

Dolly was given a chance to open his account for the season ahead of the half-hour mark from a layoff by Chivaviro, but the winger dragged wide across goal.

Chivaviro showed a switch of roles moments later when he dropped deep to collect a loose pass and stung the gloves of Veli Mothwa with a ferocious long-range strike.

The Amakhosi were forced into a change on 37 minutes after Edmilson Dove picked up an injury and left Zitha Kwinika to take his place from the bench.

In the second half, the Glamour Boys were still on the front-foot in so far as momentum but found it difficult to get beyond the lines of Usuthu.

Coach Molefi Ntseki added fresh faces in midfield and attack midway un the second half as Castillo replaced Yusuf Maart before Chivaviro made way for Jasond Gonzalez.

With the tempo very low, there weren’t sufficient clear-cut chances late on amidst the numerous overloads in midfield and in wide areas.

The visitors snatched the winner with three minutes to go as a string of passes around the area had Taariq Fielies seize possession and angled in the bottom-corner.

Chiefs looked to go level to force the match into extra-time, but failed to find target as Usuthu marched into the last eight.
