IK Sirius’ South African sensation, Tashreeq Matthews.
Kaizer Chiefs have recently shown interest in signing Sweden based IK Sirius winger Tashreeq Matthews, as revealed by Soccer Laduma, and the Siya crew now provides an update.
Siya sources had previously discussed how Matthews was seen as an ideal youngster to develop under the experienced guidance of Keagan Dolly on the field of play at Chiefs.

However, with the technical team changes already in place at Amakhosi with the departure of head coach Molefi Ntseki and the expected arrival of a new head coach at some point this season, transfer plans could change.
Cavin Johnson was recently named as interim coach, and the Siya crew has been informed that the former Al Ahly assistant could have an important say on the potential signing of Matthews too, if the transfer is possible.
Siya sources have now indicated that as much as Chiefs’ scouts and sporting department are convinced about the former Ajax Cape Town player, Johnson’s input and that of a new coach could make the final decision.
Amakhosi are mindful that the new head coach has to have a say on a number of players incoming.

“You remember we talked about Tashreeq (Matthews) before? The club had continued to monitor him with the main aim of bringing him on board,” said the Siya source.
“But that was with a different technical team. The scouting and the sporting department work hard with the technical team but they want the new coach to have a say on which players he wants in the team.
“So for now only the new coach will determine whether Tashreeq is signed or not but as a team in general they are interested in his services,” the source told the Siya crew.
A second source added that Chiefs will also look at other players who the new coach may want, whether that could be in January or at the beginning of next season.
“As much as the new coach will determine the signing of Tashreeq Matthews he will also be looking at which players the team needs to keep or release so I think it will happen during the transfer window period in January.
“Or it could be in July around the off season time (for Matthews’ signing). What I can tell you though is that Tashreeq Matthews is still on the clubs wanted list as it stands now,” the source observed.
Amakhosi’s interest in Matthews is one factor. Another factor would be whether Matthews himself would want to return to the PSL at this stage of his career. One might think the South African may prefer to continue to progress in Europe or elsewhere abroad.
The Siya crew contacted Chiefs for comment but no response was received while this story was prepared.
