Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed four departures from their squad as they prepare for what is sure to be another taxing season on different fronts.

The DStv Premiership defending champions will have league, MTN8, Carling Knockout, Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League commitments to deal with.

On top of that, there is FIFA Club World Cup duty to look forward to, with KickOff having pointed out last week that The Brazilians could play up to as many as 60 games next term.

Now, the seven-time consecutive league champions are ‘cleaning house’, so to speak, and some exits have been finalized with the expectation that a couple of recruits will be walking in through the gates at Chloorkop.

Sundowns announced on their official X account on Monday that Bongani Zungu, Brian Onyango, Gaston Sirino and Thabiso Kutumela have parted ways with the side, leaving them free to join clubs of their choices.

“Thank you to our departing players, the Yellow Nation thanks you for your effort and hard work over the years!” said the club.

Zungu beat them to the announcement though, as the midfielder confirmed on social media a little over two weeks ago, on June 14, that he and Sundowns had gone their separate ways.

It is the developments around Sirino, in particular, that will attract a lot of interest considering his contribution to the Tshwane giants over the years, though he seemed to have lost the belief and trust of head coach Rulani Mokwena after publicly declaring his intention of joining Al Ahly.
