Kaizer Chiefs’ wait for silverware will continue after they crashed out of the Carling Knockout following a 1-0 loss to AmaZulu on Saturday night.

Amakhosi made four changes to the side that lost to Cape Town City, as Keagan Dolly got his first start of the season, George Matlou returned from his injury while Ranga Chivaviro and Tebogo Potsane were brought back in.
The game was open in the early exchanges and Usuthu had a big a chance within nine minutes after Tshepang Moremi went through on goal but he was denied by shot-stopper Itumeleng Khune, who raced out of his goal, from point-blank range.
Molefi Ntseki’s charges had a lot space behind AmaZulu in their attacks and six minutes later Potsane beat the offside trap and found himself alone from Reeve Frosler’s chip over the defence but his header was smothered by goalkeeper Veli Mothwa.
With the game balanced, Chiefs were forced to make a change just after the hour-mark after Edmilson Dove broke down and he was replaced by Zitha Kwinika.
The Glamour Boys had the momentum towards the end of the first stanza and Chivaviro had a glorious chance on the stroke of half-time after a cross by Frosler but guided a free header just over the crossbar.
Chances were hard to come by for the sides early in the second stanza and just after the hour-mark, Ntseki made a double change, as Edson Castillo and Jasond Gonzalez both replaced Yusuf Maart and Chivaviro for fresh legs in midfield and in attack.
Amakhosi started to threaten going forward after that as Castillo and Gonzalez had chances in the box but could not connect with the ball in crucial moments.
The tempo of the game slowed down in the closing stages but a few changes by AmaZulu including former Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka gave them energy going forward.
Taariq Fielies broke the deadlock for Pablo Franco Martin’s troops two minutes before time with a strike on the edge of the box after he combined with Celimpilo Ngema.
Usuthu defended in numbers in the tail end as they held on and progressed to the quarter-finals.
