DESPITE the intense campaign efforts leading up to the election, the second day of special voting at Glenridge Primary School in Soweto experienced a low turnout.
Valencia Baloyi (28), voting for the fourth time, expressed her anticipation for impactful leadership.
“I’m looking forward to seeing employment opportunities for young people and significant changes in our economy and region,” she shared, hopeful that her vote will contribute to realising the promises made during the campaigns.
Kabelo Kemp (28), another Protea Glen resident, described his voting experience as both exciting and intimidating due to the presence of numerous party agents.
“It’s a testament to our thriving democracy and the variety of choices available to us. I’m glad I took this step,” Kemp said.

He emphasised his expectation that the elected leaders will value and act upon the trust voters have placed in them.
A voter who preferred to remain anonymous expressed skepticism towards all political parties, likening them to unfaithful suitors who fail to fulfill their promises.
“All these people are the same, they ell lies and never deliver at the end of the day. It is like a man who goes out to ask a girl out, they lie to get what they want and at the end the day, they don’t deliver,” he said.
Gogo Momo Skhosana voiced her disappointment with the government’s performance over the years.
“Despite decades of democracy, I’ve yet to see any real benefits. It’s time for a generational shift in parliament,” she stated.
She also highlighted her concerns about crime and the superficial gesture of distributing T-shirts during election season.
“What will those t-shirts do for us,” she asked.
