LEKAU Sehoana, the founder of Drip Footwear, has transformed his humble beginnings into a nationwide success story.
The Joburg-based entrepreneur’s brand has become one of the top-selling sneakers in South Africa.
Speaking to Daily Sun, the 34-year-old reflected on his journey since launching the brand in 2019, acknowledging both the challenges and triumphs he has encountered.

Originally from Ivory Park in Thembisa, Lekau commemorated the brand’s success by releasing a sneaker named J26, celebrating its inception on 26 July.

A celebration event was held at Thembisa Mall, Gauteng, attended by industry colleagues and supporters, including celebrities like rapper Gigi Lamayne, TT Mbha, Uncle Vinny, Sihle Dube, and Manaka Ranaka.

“Drip’s more than just a brand to me; it represents our origins and holds a special place in my heart,” Lekau expressed.

He credits the brand with significantly changing his life, lifting him from poverty to achieving his dreams.
“Everyone knows I come from a shack, and now I’m living my dreams,” he said proudly.

He said that it took him years to build this brand and he is now seeing its results.
“One thing I am proud of is that I was able to buy my mum a house. This for me is an achievement,” Lekau said.

“I had no choice but to change my circumstances. We were very poor, which drove me to work hard and lift my family out of poverty,” he said.

Lekau also expressed gratitude for the support he received during the Covid-19 pandemic, which was crucial in building his brand behind the scenes. Today, he lives his dreams, thanks to the collective effort and backing of his community.
