Spurs defender set to leave club this summer

Tottenham Hotspur will look to get their pursuit of a top four spot back on track when they face North London rivals Arsenal on Sunday.

The Lilywhites were beaten 4-0 by Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday, allowing Aston Villa to move three points clear of them in the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Next up for the Lilywhites is a huge clash against Arsenal in the North London derby, with the Gunners having also been beaten last time out, losing 2-0 to Villa on Sunday.

In the meantime, it appears that one of Tottenham’s defenders is likely to leave the club this summer.

As per Football Insider, full-back Djed Spence is expected to depart North London when the transfer window reopens.

The 22-year-old joined Spurs from Championship side Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022, having impressed during the previous season while on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Spence has only played six times for Spurs since joining the club in 2022

He has never established himself as a regular for the Lilywhites, though, making just six appearances for the London side across all competitions.

He has spent time on loan at French side Rennes and Championship club Leeds United, before being loaned to Italian side Genoa in January after his spell at Elland Road was cut short.

Spence’s time at Leeds was hampered by injuries, limiting the Englishman to just seven appearances for the Yorkshire outfit.

Since moving to the Serie A club, Spence has played nine times across all competitions, all of which have been in the league.

The report claims that the right-back is one of a number of senior players that will be put up for sale by Tottenham this summer, as they look to raise funds and free up space in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
