Tottenham Hotspur have been hit with another injury setback with Cristian Romero being ruled out of action for at least a month with a hamstring problem.
The Argentina international was forced to withdraw from Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Everton on Saturday, and a scan revealed the extent of the problem.
Romero had just returned to action after serving a three-match ban after his sending off in a 4-1 defeat to Chelsea on December 6.
“It’s not so great with Romero,” Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said in his pre-match press conference.
“He had a scan the other day. He’s got a hamstring strain. So, we’re looking at probably four weeks, five weeks for him.
“It’s disappointing to lose him, for sure. We obviously missed him with the suspension and now, we’d just got him back and kind of steadied things up and obviously we have him missing again for quite a chunk of time.”
Postecoglou also gave an update on fellow centre-half Micky van de Ven, and hopes to have the Dutchman back at some point next month.
The defender has been out of action since limping off in the first-half of Tottenham’s defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
“He’s getting closer. We’ll see him sometime in January,” he revealed.
“I don’t think Burnley [in the FA Cup on January 5] but Man United on the 14th, I think potentially. But I don’t look at comeback dates until I see them training with us and he’s not part of the group.
“He’s not due to be part of the group this week, He’s at the tail end of it for sure, so at some point … middle of January definitely we’d think he’d be available but how we use him then, after such a long absence, is going to depend on where we feel he’s at.”
Aside from their injury woes, Spurs will also be without skipper Son Heung-min, as he heads off to join the South Korea squad for the Asian Cup.
His last match before departing for international duty is likely to be the home match against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve.
