Paul Onuachu left KRC Genk in the January transfer window to join Southampton, but six months later, a return to his former team is on the table
Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, is reportedly being linked with a potential return to the Belgian Pro League to rejoin KRC Genk, just a few months after his move to Southampton, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onuachu signed a three-year deal with Southampton during the late hours of the Winter transfer window, but his time with the English club has seen its share of ups and downs.
Speculations have been rife in the transfer market that the Nigerian forward is looking for an exit from St Mary’s Stadium, with strong links to a move back to his former club, Genk.
In a recent interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, Genk coach Wouter Vrancken addressed the transfer situation regarding Onuachu.
When asked about the financial feasibility of bringing Onuachu back to Genk, Vrancken highlighted that it largely depends on the player, as the club might not be able to meet Southampton’s asking price for the striker.
“That depends on him, hey. he was sold for around 18 million euros, I believe…” Vrancken stated as quoted by Voetbal 24. “We don’t want to trade in that category… Bonsu Baah (5.2 million, ed.) was also a solid investment, but that is about our limit,” he concludes. “Antwerp and Club can go to double that!”
The potential return of Onuachu to Genk has become a topic of keen interest in the transfer market, as the club weighs its options and financial capabilities in pursuing the Nigerian forward once again.
