We’re not sure anybody was asking for a Chevrolet Corvette with 1000bhp and body armour, but boutique US manufacturer Rezvani has gone ahead and built one anyway.
This is the Beast, and it’s not Rezvani’s first model to use that name. Previous Beasts have included a wild open-topped speedster based on the Ariel Atom and a bonkers Lotus Elise-derived coupe with sliding doors.
Now, though, Rezvani has turned up the wick a little with a re-body of the current-shape, mid-engined C8 Chevrolet Corvette. It maintains that car’s 6.2-litre LT2 V8 but throws on a pair of turbochargers to up power to around 1000bhp. The Corvette’s eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox is also carried over.
Rezvani has given it a totally new body made entirely from carbon fibre, which drops weight from the Corvette Stingray’s 1654kg to 1343kg. All in, it’ll do 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds and a standing quarter mile in 9.5 seconds.
Interior-wise, changes from the Corvette are much more minimal, although Rezvani has sliced off the top of the steering wheel to create a sort of yoke arrangement, which we’re sure will really help with low-speed manoeuvring…
Rezvani Beast – interior
Rezvani could have just re-bodied the car, turned up the power and called it a day, but it’s gone a little further and decided to give Beast buyers the option of living out their 1980s spy thriller fantasies.
To that end, buyers can spec a $45,000 (approx. £36,000) ‘007 Package’ (and yes, we’re wondering if Eon Productions will have something to say about that). This bestows the Beast with a suite of spy-spec gadgets and protection systems.
Rezvani Beast – front
These include night vision cameras, electromagnetic pulse protection, electrified door handles, onboard gas masks, a pepper spray dispenser and a smoke screen. It’s fairly safe to assume that a lot of this stuff isn’t remotely legal for on-road use, but if nothing else, it’s a neat party trick for Beast owners to show their friends.
Furthermore, for another $55,000 (approx. £44,000), the Beast can be optioned with body armour and bulletproof glass. Because we’re sure the sort of people that need that kind of protection are also in the market for a 1000bhp supercar.
Rezvani Beast – rear
Rezvani says just 20 Beasts will be built, which is probably an appropriate figure for a pretty niche product. It starts at $485,000 (around £386,500), although you’ll obviously be coughing up another $100k if you really want to go the whole hog and pretend you’re James Bond.
