Rey Mysterio is the leader of the LWO and Santos Escobar is obviously second in command. That definitely must be hurting Escobar somewhere as who likes coming second? Also, Escobar was initially the rightful contender to fight against Austin Theory for the Championship.
But Theory sneakily attacked Escobar backstage right before the match. This led to him being deemed medically unfit to wrestle and, as the leader of the LWO, Mysterio took his place. Not only did he take his place, but he also convincingly defeated Theory, thus becoming the new United States Champion. Although Mysterio did this purely for the LWO, deep down, Escobar’s resentment might be mounting, especially as it could’ve been him in the ring.

And for that very reason exactly 2 weeks ago, Escobar respectfully asked Rey Mysterio for a title match and Mysterio gladly obliged. Although Escobar said that he has nothing but love and respect for Mysterio, the greed for the title might just bring out his evil side. We will only have to wait and watch to see what happens.
But speaking about title matches, Mysterio has made it very clear who he wants to have his next title match against.
