The NCAA transfer portal is open and has once again hit a new record for number of players entered at well over 1,000 and counting at this point.
Some of the biggest names in the portal have included some of the nation’s top quarterbacks and it could be yet another huge year for signal-callers in the portal after the type of success Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. experienced when they sought a change of scenery in the portal.
Here’s a look into some of the top names in the portal at quarterback and where they could land next.

Transfer portal QB predictions 2024
Riley Leonard, Duke – Notre Dame
Leonard entered the transfer portal with a “do not contact” tag, making it seem that he had already figured out his landing spot before he entered to begin with. Leonard is set to take a visit to Notre Dame between Dec 6-7. At this point, it would be surprising to watch Leonard, who was projected as a first-round draft pick before an injury marred season, go anywhere else.
Despite some of the suggestions, it does not seem plausible for Leonard to follow Mike Elko to Texas A&M with Connor Weigman cemented as a starter in College Station with plenty of upside.
Dillon Gabriel, Oklahoma – Oregon
Gabriel’s entrance into the portal came as a surprise to many, considering how strong the fit seemed to be between the type of quarterback Gabriel is and the type of offensive scheme the Sooners run. But especially in the NIL era, there will be moves that don’t seem to make exact sense from a purely football perspective because of some of the money to potentially be gained elsewhere — a factor some have been led to believe could be a part of Gabriel’s motive to transfer.
Gabriel is expected to visit Oregon soon, according to a report from ESPN insider Pete Thamel. The Ducks are considered to be in the lead of the race for Gabriel, who has multiple suitors. Bo Nix experienced a major upswing in Eugene, and Gabriel (who is already on the national radar) has a chance to even further establish himself here.
DJ Uiagalelei, Oregon State – FSU
The Cardinals will head into the offseason looking to replace Jack Plummer, who transferred from Cal and had a strong season with the Cardinals. Plummer doesn’t have any eligibility left after the season, leaving them in a bit of a tough place.
FSU is in a similar situation with Jordan Travis expected to be one of the most highly regarded prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft.
According to multiple reports, Louisville and FSU have been among those most interested in Uiagalelei, with some other names like Mississippi State possibly in the mix as well.
With Louisville recently landing former Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough, though, it is strongly anticipated that the Cardinals won’t be going for another quarterback.
Will Rogers, Mississippi State – Washington/Miami
The Huskies and the Hurricanes seem to be the most logical two destinations for Rogers at this point, though he’ll have multiple suitors in the portal with the type of numbers he put up for the Bulldogs under late Air Raid guru Mike Leach. Rogers was not able to be utilized to his full potential by head coach Zach Arnett, who was ultimately fired after he tried to completely overturn the offensive scheme in a way that was not successful.
In a more pass-happy offense, Rogers stands a chance at getting himself back in the conversation among the nation’s top quarterbacks like he used to be in.
There have been reports that Rogers has had some contact with Washington, and, according to sources, Rogers was strongly expected to land at Miami if Tyler Van Dyke moved on. With Van Dyke now gone, this could once again be a destination for Rogers.
Cam Ward, Washington State – Ohio State/Miami
The Kyle McCord era did not quite work out at Ohio State and the Buckeyes will be looking for someone to take his spot after McCord himself entered the transfer portal. The Buckeyes are expected to be looking in that very same place as they aim to find their quarterback of the future.

Ward will be one of the best available choices for Ohio State looking at the current crop, and he’s gotten early round draft buzz at some point at both schools he’s been at between Incarnate Word and Washington State.
According to multiple reports, OSU is a confirmed interested party.
