Who will walk out of Miami as UFC bantamweight champion when Sean O’Malley defends the title against Marlon Vera at UFC 299? We’re about to find out.
From the Kaseya Center, the event airs on ESPN+ PPV in the U.S.
O’Malley turned pro in 2015 and started his UFC journey on Dana White’s Contender Series. Though he lost against Vera in 2020, O’Malley recovered with victories including vagainst Petr Yan and now-former champion Aljamain Sterling. Beating Sterling to become the bantamweight champion last year, O’Malley holds all the cards and is ready to continue his reign.
The colorful 29-year-old wants to avenge a loss against Vera he believes shouldn’t be on his record. It doesn’t matter how he does it — he only aims to impress and build on his future as the face of MMA.
“I don’t care about (finishing Vera),” O’Malley told The Athletic. “I just want to go out there and continue to be great, make a lot of money, and keep winning. I want to be the king of combat sports. The way to do that is by being champion.”

Vera is 23-8-1 overall in UFC. Losing against Jose Aldo in 2020, “Chito” was on a four-fight win streak before being defeated by Cory Sandhagen in March 2023. His last fight was a decision win over Pedro Munhoz in August. Now, he finally gets his hands on O’Malley again after almost four years.
Outside the main event, the entire card is stacked. It features fighters like Dustin Poirier, Michael “Venom” Page, Song Yadong, Maycee Barber, Rafael dos Anjos, Michel Pereira, and more.
The Sporting News will provide results from the entire UFC 299 card.
