Manchester United’s Under-18s lost 1-0 to Wolves in the U18 Premier League Cup group stage on Saturday.
The hosts came out of the blocks fast at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground, pressing United high in the first five minutes before the game settled into a calmer rhythm throughout the first half.
It was winger Malachi Sharpe who came closest to making a breakthrough for the Reds late in the opening 45 minutes, when he took the ball around Wolves goalkeeper Lewys Benjamin before placing his shot narrowly wide of the post.
United goalkeeper Elyh Harrison did well to prevent our hosts doubling their lead in the second half.
The game settled back into a similar pattern after the second half commenced, before Wolves striker Leon Chiwome charged through the United defence and slotted a finish past Elyh Harrison.
Harrison stepped in later in the half to prevent the hosts from doubling their lead, successfully charging down a shot from Fabian Reynolds from a few yards out.
Efforts from Shea Lacey and Ruben Curley hit the target, as United pushed for a equaliser, but Wolves goalkeeper Benjamin denied the to prevent the Reds from drawing level.
