Dornoch, the colt co-owned by former MLB All-Star and World Series winner Jayson Werth, is headed to the 2024 Breeders’ Cup.
Werth was at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey, to celebrate Dornoch’s victory in the win-and-you’re-in Haskell Stakes on Saturday.

Dornoch won the race by 1 1/4 lengths as he completed the 1 1/8 mile race in 1:50.31.
The colt, ridden by Luis Saez, secured a $1 million prize and an automatic bid in the Breeder’s Cup.
“He’s awesome,” Werth said about Dornoch on the NBC broadcast after the win (h/t the Associated Press.) “He’s a cool dude. We love this guy. He’s like a family member.”
Werth’s company, Two Eight Racing, owns a 10 percent stake in Dornoch. The LLC is named after the jersey number he wore with the Philadelphia Phillies during the team’s run to the World Series in 2008.
Dornoch finished 10th at the Kentucky Derby, but pulled off an upset win in the Belmont Stakes.
The colt was again not favorited to win Saturday but again beat the odds to secure a spot in the Breeder’s Cup.
“He’s the best 3-year-old,” Werth said (h/t BloodHorse’s Bob Ehalt.) “He had a bad trip in the Kentucky Derby but we never stopped believing in him. He’s been discounted and discredited the whole way and I’m elated that he’s getting the notoriety and credibility he deserves.”
The Breeder’s Cup is set to take place at the Del Mar Racetrack in San Diego, California from November 1 to 2.
