Warhammer Age of Sigmar Skaventide is here, and the latest edition of Age of Sigmar is packed full of miniatures for you to build. But, is the Skaventide value something to get excited about?
The highly anticipated 4th Edition of Age of Sigmar is finally here, and we get a big box to celebrate it. As is often the case with Age of Sigmar, Games Workshop have gone above and beyond to pack the box with as much stuff as possible.
But, with a steep price tag of $210 USD (£160) is the barrier of entry too high for any new players?

Is Skaventide Worth it?
So, this is the big question. We’ll use USD as our base currency here as it’s likely the most common, however, it’s worth noting that the box is a lot cheaper for those in UK and Europe. Especially those in the UK.
“per model” we are looking at around $3.50, which is a really good start for what is a starter box. The models in this set are mostly new, especially for Skaven with the range getting a near complete refresh.
Skaven Model Cost
We don’t have any real pricing for Skaven as the old models have mostly all been removed, so we will have to take a very tentative look at what we have here.
Clawlord on Gnaw-Beast – $45
Grey Seer – $30
Warlock Engineer – $25
Ratling Warpblaster – $40
Rat Ogors – $50
3x Warplock Jezzails – $50
40x Clanrats – $80
Total Value – $320*
It’s a pretty solid value even if you just want to play Skaven. But, that’s sort of the point of these boxes. It gets people in the door, giving them a huge selection of models
Stormcast Eternal Cost
While a lot of these models are obviously new, we have a slightly better idea of the cost simply because Stormcast still have much of their line still for sale.
Lord-Vigilant on Gryph-stalker – $60
Lord-Terminos with Memorian – $45
Lord-Veritant with Gryph-crow – $45
Knight-Questor – $45
3x Reclusians with 2x Memorians – $50
3x Prosecutors – $60
10x Liberators – $60
Total Value – $375
Skaventide Value and Saving
The stuff here is really just “the free stuff” but, it does hold value so let’s take a rough look.
1x 272-page hardback Warhammer Age of Sigmar Core Book – $65
1x 144-page hardback Spearhead: Fire and Jade book – $40
1x 30″ by 22.4″ double-sided game board – $5
24x Stormcast Eternals – $375
50x Skaven – ¤320
4x plastic push-fit terrain features – $30
36x Spearhead cards – $15
17x General’s Handbook cards – $10
1x 6″ plastic range ruler and 1x 3″ plastic range ruler – $5
Value – $865
Saving – $600
As always, saving is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, as very few people would actually go out and by all of this stuff individually. But even if you are just interested in one army, you could easily sell the second one for $100 and make back nearly half of your investment.
Again, these boxes are such good value for the FOMO of the new release. If you want to save some money, wait for the flood of second-hand models on sites like eBay in the coming weeks.
