The Super Eagles will be looking to return to winning ways after dropping points against Lesotho, but Zimbabwe do not plan to make it easy
Zimbabwe coach Baltemar Brito has declared that they will not show any respect for Nigeria when they meet in their second game of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Soccernet reports.
The Super Eagles will square off against Zimbabwe at the Stade Huye in Rwanda on Sunday. Both teams enter into the fixture with somewhat similar fortunes.
While Zimbabwe claimed a tough draw at Rwanda, Jose Peseiro and his lads just managed to hold Lesotho to a disappointing 1-1 draw at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
The Super Eagles will be looking to return to winning ways against the Warriors on Sunday. Nigeria are favourites to get the victory because of the quality of the squad. Also, they are condemned to win to stand a good chance of qualifying for the World Cup, especially after South Africa’s win over Benin on Saturday.
However, the Warriors’ coach has declared that they are also targeting a victory and will take the game to Nigeria.
“At this level, all opponents play to win. Even we[Zimbabwe], will play for a win against Nigeria,” Baltemar said via the ZFA page.
“People will expect a revenge from Nigeria because they drew their first game[against Lesotho].
“But they are not playing against a small or weak nation. They will come strong, but we will come strong too. We are here to face them.”
A draw will put Nigeria in a precarious position if South Africa defeat Rwanda in their second game. Only the group leaders get automatic World Cup tickets.
