The 25-year-old is a top target for the Hammers who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
A Mexican international with 68 caps to his name, Alvarez joined current club Ajax in 2019 after joining from Club de Football America.
Since moving to the Eredivisie, he has racked up 147 appearances, scoring seven goals in the process.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Alvarez could be seen as the ideal replacement for Declan Rice.
Rice completed a £105million move to Arsenal earlier this summer, a deal that was expected to spark a huge splurge in the transfer market for the Hammers.
However no signings have yet been made by Moyes, leading him to advertise for seven positions on a transfer website in an attempt to bring new faces in.
West Ham had been linked with James Ward Prowse, however talkSPORT understands that a ‘take it or leave it’ offer of £30million was rejected by Southampton, leading the Hammers to pursue other targets.
