The Chargers and Rams will kick off their 2023 NFL preseason with a Battle for Los Angeles.
L.A.’s two NFL franchises will go head-to-head to start their exhibition schedules, with the Rams representing the home team at SoFi Stadium in Saturday’s preseason opener. But it’s the Chargers who enter the 2023 NFL season with high expectations to compete for a Super Bowl behind rising star quarterback Justin Herbert.
Conversely, the Rams will look to bounce back from a disappointing 2022 season after starting quarterback Matthew Stafford appeared in only nine games as he dealt with a variety of injuries. Those include a nagging elbow injury and spinal contusion that knocked him out for the rest of the year.
As for Stafford’s 2023 campaign, Rams coach Sean McVay said over the offseason “There will be no limitations. He’ll be ready to roll.” Whether that starts with the cross-town rivals in the preseason remains to be seen.
