A couple of Pac-12 powerhouses clash when the eighth-ranked Stanford women’s basketball team visits No. 5 Colorado on Jan. 14.
Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer earned her 1,200th victory with a 71-59 victory over Washington on Jan. 7.
In more than 44 years as a head coach, VanDerveer has won three NCAA titles, made 14 Final Fours and was national coach of the year five times. She surpassed former Tennessee coach Pat Summit in 2020 as the women’s career leader.
The Cardinal could battle for a conference title with a high-scoring offense that keeps teams under pressure.
Stanford is led by senior Cameron Brink, who averages more than 18 points and 10 rebounds per game. The Oregon native was preseason Associated Press All-American and is on the Naismith Trophy Watch List for a potential Player of the Year award.
Cardinal junior forward Kiki Iriafen is second on the team, averaging close to 17 points and 10 rebounds per game. Stanford is also getting a boost from freshman Nunu Agara ,who has been effective off the bench.
Colorado is also playing well in the Pac-12 and could battle Stanford for the title. The Buffaloes are off to their best start since the 1996-97 season.
Colorado led Aaronette Vonleh, who averages more than 15 points and is a key shot-blocker on the defensive end.
Jaylyn Sherrod was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week earlier this month after scoring 34 points in a win against Utah.
