Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes will begin their quest for a third consecutive Big Ten Tournament title Friday.
As the No. 2 seed, the Hawkeyes received a double-bye to begin the tournament. In the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals, Iowa will take on No. 7 Penn State, which earned an 80-56 win over Wisconsin on Thursday.
Friday’s quarterfinal matchup is the first time Clark will step on the floor since becoming the NCAA Division I all-time scoring leader. She broke Pete Maravich’s record in Iowa’s win over Ohio State to close the regular season. Not only did Clark make history in the game, but she also finished with 35 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals to avenge one of the Hawkeyes’ four losses on the season.
The last meeting between Iowa and Penn State was a relatively forgettable outing for Clark, who, despite finishing with 27 points, 15 assists and 5 rebounds, shot just 8 of 23 from the field and committed 12 turnovers. The Hawkeyes still pulled off a 111-93 win thanks in large part to sophomore forward Hannah Stuelke, who scored a career-high 47 points on 17-of-20 shooting from the field.
