No. 8 Virginia Tech has already clinched the top seed in the ACC Tournament and will to keep rolling against No.19 Notre Dame on Thursday.
The Hokies are one of the hottest teams in the nation and have won 10 consecutive games. They have the opportunity to win the regular season outright with a win at Notre Dame.
Virginia Tech is coming off a 74-62 win over North Carolina on Sunday. Elizabeth Kitley led the Hokies with 34 points. Georgia Amoore added a double-double with 19 points and 11 assists. Amoore became the program’s all-time leader with 636 assists, breaking the previous record of 635 held by Lisa Witherspoon (1995-99).
Virginia Tech won its 25th consecutive home game, tying the program record. The 15-0 record in the regular season is the third time in program history that the Hokies have gone unblemished at home.
The Fighting Irish also extended its winning streak to three games with a 79-55 victory over Boston College on Sunday. Notre Dame trailed by double-digits for the fifth time in their last six outings but was able to overcome the deficit.
Four Fighting Irish players finished in double-figures: Hannah Hidalgo (19 points), Maddy Westbeld (18), Sonia Citron (16) and Anna DeWolfe (11).
Nat Marshall was ruled out with an illness after playing in each of Notre Dame’s first 26 games. KK Bransford got extensive playing time in Marshall’s absence and finished with nine points, six assists, six rebounds and two steals over 30 minutes.
Notre Dame still has a chance to finish in the top of the ACC’s standing and earn a double bye in the conference tournament. But first, the Fighting Irish will have to get past Virginia Tech.
