Two teams that in search of answers after suffering rough losses in Week 4 will meet in Week 5. Only one can right the ship.
Last week, the Patriots (1-3) suffered the worst loss of head coach Bill Belichick’s career falling 38-3 to the Cowboys. The Saints (2-2), who opened the season with two straight wins, fell 26-9 to a divisional foe in the Buccaneers.
At a crucial juncture of the season, both teams will look to get back in the win column when they take the field at Gillette Stadium.
For New England, the questions surround QB Mac Jones, who in Week 4 was 12 of 21 for 150 yards and threw two interceptions, one of which was a pick-six. Jones was replaced by second-year QB Bailey Zappe late in the game, but it was not a benching, per Belichick. Making matters worse is that New England will be without two defensive game-changers in LB Matthew Judon and rookie CB Christian Gonzalez, both of whom were injured in Week 4.
New Orleans’ biggest issues surround the offense as a whole, as offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael comes under fire after the loss to Tampa Bay. Alvin Kamara, who returned from a league-mandated suspension against the Bucs, didn’t hold back on the offense, saying they “need to have tough conversations soon.” Making matters worse is that QB Derek Carr is playing through a shoulder injury while his team needs to turn things around before it sputters.
