He is the current Olympic champion in the 100m breaststroke and will look to win that for a third consecutive time after qualifying for the final by winning his semi-final, while he is also taking part in the men’s and mixed 4 x 100m relay.

And with his Olympic campaign underway, talkSPORT.com had a look into Peaty’s impressive array of tattoos.

What do Adam Peaty’s tattoos mean?

Interestingly, Peaty spent many years of his swimming career without tattoos, but that has all changed in recent years.

The Englishman is now covered in lots of distinct artwork, which all represent different things.

Peaty’s equilibrium tattoo

On Peaty’s left bicep, he has the Olympic rings on the inside, with the word ‘equilibrium’ underneath.

This is linked to his belief that he must maintain balance in all parts of his life to be successful.

Peaty’s lion tattoo

One of the more striking images that Peaty has on his body is that of a huge lion on his left shoulder.

He added this one in recognition of his first Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro when he won the 100m breaststroke and set a world record time of 57.13 seconds.

Within the lion are Roman numerals XXVI, which translates to 2016, when he won that initial gold medal.

Peaty’s Poseidon tattoo

Another striking image on his left arm is that of Poseidon.

In Greek mythology, Poseidon is the god of the sea, and this tattoo represents Peaty’s connection with water.

Peaty’s conquer your demons tattoo

On Peaty’s right arm, there is a sword and within it are the words ‘conquer your demons’.

This relates to his past mental health struggles, which he has been open about.

Peaty’s warrior tattoo

Another prominent feature on Peaty’s body is the huge Spartan warrior he has on his right shoulder.

It’s almost as big as the lion on the left, and it represents his never-say-die attitude to life.

Peaty’s faith tattoos

There are two prominent pieces of artwork on Peaty’s front.

One is a pretty large cross, with the phrase ‘into the light’ underneath it.

This tattoo symbolises his spiritual awakening and how he turned his life around.

Peaty’s ‘H’ tattoo

One of the smaller but nicer tattoos is the one of the ‘H’ he has.

He got this in tribute to his girlfriend, Holly Ramsay, TV chef Gordon Ramsay’s daughter.

The pair met on Strictly Come Dancing and she has a matching tattoo as well, which she revealed on Instagram in early 2024.
