Former world champion JoJo Diaz looks to conquer a new division when he faces Jesus Perez at super lightweight on February 15. The Golden Boy fight night in California airs on DAZN.
Diaz turned pro in 2012. “JoJo” lost his first pro fight in 2018 when he challenged Gary Russell Jr. for the WBC featherweight title. He beat Jesus Rojas that year to win the WBA featherweight belt and won the IBF super featherweight title in 2020 against Tevin Farmer. Moving divisions, Diaz won the interim WBC lightweight title against Javier Fortuna in 2021. However, he lost three straight fights after, with one against Devin Haney. The 31-year-old last fought in July, beating Jerry Perez.
It is a new chapter in his long career, one he continues to live out under the Golden Boy banner.
“Throughout his career, JoJo has defied the odds — competing at the Olympics, defeating undefeated fighters, and winning a world championship,” said Golden Boy’s Boy Oscar De La Hoya. “Now he is taking his second step back towards title contention, and I see the renewed focus in his eyes as he takes one more run at championship glory.”
