It’s time for “Thursday Night Football” to begin in earnest.
While the NFL kickoff was broadcast on Thursday night in Week 1, it wasn’t an official “Thursday Night Football” game. NBC aired the game, so it had to stick to its “Sunday Night Football” branding for the NFL opener, as the network has done since taking over that broadcast.
But in Week 2, “TNF” returns to the Amazon Prime airwaves; and with it comes a familiar matchup.
The Eagles and Vikings are set to do battle in Week 2 for the second consecutive season. That scheduling is a bit unique, as Philadelphia and Minnesota are in different divisions and, thus, do not play every year. But after finishing first in their respective divisions, they are set to face off again; as such, the NFL decided a repeat of the matchup would be best suited to open Amazon’s broadcasting slate in 2023.
It’s easy to understand why. The Eagles are the reigning NFC champions, and while they have seen some key members of the coaching staff depart — including Colts coach Shane Steichen and Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon — the rest of their roster remains largely intact.

As for the Vikings, they were considered one of the NFL’s biggest overachievers last season. They went 13-4 and won the NFC North before their defensive struggles resulted in a first-round flame-out against the Giants.
But with Brian Flores joining the team to call the defense, there is hope the Vikings can be a better-rounded team even if their record regresses.
This Jalen Hurts vs. Kirk Cousins matchup has the potential to be explosive. However, it could also turn into a blowout if the Eagles can force Cousins into sacks and turnovers as they did in their last meeting. Either way, it will be worth watching as Minnesota tries to exact revenge on what is arguably the NFC’s best squad.

Each of Amazon Prime’s “Thursday Night Football” broadcasts for 2023 is set to begin at 8:15 p.m. ET (7:15 p.m. CT). That includes the Vikings vs. Eagles game set for Week 2.

Amazon Prime is entering its second season as the exclusive home of the NFL’s “Thursday Night Football” broadcast package. Because of that, those watching the game nationally will need a subscription to Amazon Prime to access the game.
However, the NFL took steps to ensure that those without subscriptions will still be able to watch each contest provided that they are in the local markets of the teams playing. As such, those in the Minnesota TV market will be able to watch the game on Fox affiliate KMSP, while those in the Philadelphia area can catch it on WTFX, another Fox affiliate.
Amazon put many resources into its broadcast for its first season, and the crew was generally well-received. The three-person broadcast team of Al Michaels (play-by-play), Kirk Herbstreit (game analyst) and Kaylee Hartung (sideline reporter) put together a solid performance even despite Herbstreit’s lack of experience calling NFL games.
Meanwhile, the studio crew of host Charissa Thompson and former players Tony Gonzalez, Richard Sherman, Andrew Whitworth and Ryan Fitzpatrick provided interesting pregame, halftime and postgame coverage. Marshawn Lynch also had a role in the pregame show and added some personality to the broadcast in that role.
Viewers in Canada will not have to have Amazon Prime to access “Thursday Night Football” in 2023. They will be able to watch the games on DAZN.

If you want to watch “Thursday Night Football” in 2023, you are going to need a subscription to Amazon Prime. The streaming service will be the exclusive streaming home of the program for the next decade, and the games will only be broadcast on over-the-air TV in the participating teams’ local markets.
NFL schedule Week 2
The Vikings vs. Eagles game will kick off NFL Week 2 in a rematch of a “Monday Night Football” battle that the two teams had last year. Philadelphia crushed Minnesota in that game 24-7, so Kirk Cousins and Co. should be out for revenge.
While that game starts the week, three prime-time clashes will end it. The Patriots will host the Dolphins on “Sunday Night Football” as Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones duel in a clash of Alabama quarterbacks. Bill Belichick’s strong defense will have to find a way to slow down Tyreek Hill and Mike McDaniel’s offense after Miami’s 36-point outburst against the Chargers.
“Monday Night Football” in Week 2 will feature one of three doubleheaders for the program during the 2023 season. The Panthers will host the Saints in the first matchup, as Bryce Young hunts for his first win as an NFL starter, while the Steelers will host the Browns as they look to come off an embarrassing loss to the 49ers.
Other games of note on Sunday include a matchup between Lamar Jackson’s Ravens and Joe Burrow’s Bengals, a Chiefs vs. Jaguars playoff rematch and a battle between the Super Bowl hopeful Cowboys and the Aaron Rodgers-less Jets.
