England will begin the knockout stages of the Women’s World Cup with a highly anticipated showdown against Nigeria this morning.

The Lionesses finally seemed to have exploded into life at the tournament by thrashing China 6-1 to seal top spot in Group D.

The victory followed up successive unconvincing 1-0 victories over Haiti and Denmark that maintained England’s perfect record.

Opponents Nigeria scraped through in second in Group B with only one win and two draws against Canada and the Republic of Ireland.

But their only three points were gained with a stunning 3-2 win over co-hosts Australia and will provide a stern last-16 test.

England vs Nigeria: How to watch on TV

This World Cup last 16 clash will take place on Monday, August 7.

The match at Lang Park in Brisbane, Australia is scheduled to kick-off for 5:30pm local time, which is 8:30am in the UK.

It is being shown BBC One with coverage starting at 8am.

It will be shown free-to-air and you can also live stream it for free on the BBC website and BBC iPlayer.

Speaking to ITV after her star performance against China, Lauren James said: “Happy for the team, everyone’s buzzing and we’re looking forward to going into the next round.

“I felt free, Whether I’m on the wing or in the middle I’m happy to be on the pitch playing and enjoying my football, I’m happy that I can contribute to goals as well.

“Each day, each game I’m looking to improve and get better. There’s many more years of improvement, I can always get better.

“I just need to stay focused and hope that can happen.”
