When is Mexico’s next game at Copa America 2024 vs. Ecuador? Schedule, dates, times, roster and how to watch El Tri matches

When is Mexico’s next game at Copa America 2024 vs. Ecuador? Schedule, dates, times, roster and how to watch El Tri matches

Following a poor performance in a 1-0 defeat to Venezuela, Mexico returns to the field for a must-win game against Ecuador.

Heading into the final group stage match, Mexico sits on the outside looking up at the final two places to qualify for the knockout stage, and Ecuador currently has the advantage on goal difference, so a draw wouldn’t be enough.

El Tri is sporting a younger, less experienced squad at the 2024 Copa America, with a number of fan-favorite veterans left home, with head coach Jaime Lozano electing to omit the likes of as Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa, Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, Raul Jimenez, and Hector Herrera.

In exchange, Lozano is giving some youngsters and newcomers a chance to make a name for themselves in front of one of the most passionate fanbases in the world.

Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, wing back Gerardo Arteaga, and Colombian-Mexican Julian Quinones are all playing big minutes at Copa America and are hoping to potentially earn a starting spot at the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Mexico.

Mexico’s Copa America record

Since their first invitation to Copa America in 1993, Mexico have made it to the final twice, finishing as runners-up both times. El Tri was beaten by Argentina in 1993 and Colombia in 2001. It’s been a tough go for Mexico recently, as they were knocked out in the group stage in 2011 and 2015, and then in the Copa America Centenario in the U.S., El Tri was routed, 7-0, by Chile in the quarterfinals.
