Everything’s bigger in Texas — even the hatred that the drivers have for one of NASCAR’s most controversial tracks.
Texas Motor Speedway has never been known as a track that makes a lot of fans. Not even time can heal those wounds, especially with changes to the surface only making matters worse for frustrated drivers.
After calling for the track to be demolished two years ago, Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson led the field to green but found trouble when he lost a wheel following stage one.
As the season picks up, racing in the Texas heat is only certain to raise the temperature. Five playoff spots have already been locked up after eight races, with another on the line Sunday. With points at a premium as the season progresses, every result matters — even when the drivers don’t want to be there.
Here’s what you need to know about the results of Sunday’s event in the Lone Star State.
Who won the NASCAR race today?
It took two overtimes and plenty of yellow flags, but Chase Elliott finally emerged victorious at Texas Motor Speedway, snapping a 42-race winless streak. The Hendrick Motorsports star hasn’t been to victory lane since last capturing a checkered flag at Talladega in October 2022.

Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong during the time since and fuel concerns nearly doomed him in the second overtime on Sunday.
After jumping out to the lead on the first lap of the second overtime, Elliott was able to take the green-white-checkered flag before caution could wave. Ross Chastain, who was in second at the time, ended up being involved in a crash, which saw him finish 32nd.
Elliott also held the lead with two laps to go before overtime became a factor, but Denny Hamlin spun out and triggered a caution that sent the race beyond the allotted 267 laps.
The win now secures Elliott a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, bringing the total to six drivers after nine races.
