Springer hit six birdies and an eagle in an superb 27 for the opening nine.
He’s chances of going under 60 took a hit with five straight pars to start the back nine before he birdied 15 and chipped-in for another eagle two holes later.

He said: “I’m at a loss for words at being able to do that, one of the rare things in golf. I’ve shot 61 a few times.
“It’s been a little bit tough to find anything, so it is special.”
Springer carded the 14th sub-60 round on the PGA Tour and just 12 days after Cameron Young did the same at the recent Travelers Championship.
Jim Furyk, Scottie Scheffler, Kevin Chappell, Brandt Snedeker, Adam Hadwin, Justin Thomas, Stuart Appleby, Paul Goydos, David Duval, Chip Beck, and Al Geiberger are the other players to achieve the feat.
Furyk also holds the all-time low record having hit a 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship.
