World Triathlon’s Executive Board has approved the inclusion on the 2023 season calendar of a new event, the World Triathlon Para Cup Taranto (Italy), to be hosted on Sunday October 29, 2023. With this new race included on the calendar, World Triathlon is adding another opportunity for Para triathletes to obtain Paralympic ranking points on back to back weekends, with the Malaga Para Cup (Spain) taking place just the week before.
“It is always great news to give the Para athletes more opportunities to compete, especially when we are in the Paralympic qualification period. It is fantastic to be able to offer another race within this calendar, and we are extremely grateful to the Italian Triathlon Federation (FITRI) for their support and commitment to putting this event in place. Italy has always shown great support for the sport of triathlon in general, and Para triathlon in particular, and hosting Taranto just a week after another Para Cup in Spain gives the athletes the opportunity to perform in two races, offering a better opportunity for all athletes and especially those coming from overseas, minimizing the travel impact”, said World Triathlon President and IOC Member, Marisol Casado.
