The WWE has fired back at an attack on Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson that said the actor and wrestler’s megastar unprofessionalism on a movie set caused ‘a f****** disaster.’

A stinging blast was launched at Johnson earlier this week which included claims of ‘chronic lateness’ – not least turning up hours late for his main event match at WWE’s WrestleMania XL.

Rock featured on night one of the April extravaganza in a tag team effort alongside cousin Roman Reigns, defeating Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

The 45-minute epic was a stunning return to the wrestling ring for the grappler turned Hollywood star, but claims in The Wrap have suggested all was not well behind the scenes.

According to the report in the Wrap, The People’s Champ turned up three hours late ahead of the clash, having, they claimed, already been two hours late for a fan convention held by WWE prior to WrestleMania – though the latter has been put down to traffic issues and prior commitments.

The blast was part of a hard-hitting report that sought to highlight what some insiders claim is a lack of professionalism on the star’s behalf in the movie world, which also allege that Ryan Reynolds and Johnson got into a ‘huge fight’ because the Wrexham owner was so annoyed at his tardiness.

Notably there were claims that “chronic lateness and lack of professionalism on set to producers’ inexperience” contributed to Amazon MGM Move ‘Red One’ ballooning its budget by $50 million.

Johnson, the report went on to say, “showed up as much as eight hours late to set on the movie — forcing the crew to shoot around him on some days,” resulting in an overall situation that led to one insider telling the publication “It was a f disaster.”

Neither Amazon nor WWE have taken the claims lying down, however, both giving firm replies to the accusations.

A spokesperson for Amazon MGM stated: “Dwayne Johnson and Seven Bucks [Johnson’s production company] have been incredible partners on ‘Red One’—a film that audiences of all ages are going to love this holiday season.

“Our testing has been very strong — the reaction from CinemaCon speaks for itself — and we couldn’t have made it without Dwayne’s constant work and support.

“Any reporting that implies that we got to this point with him showing up seven-eight hours late to set is both ridiculous and false.”

Flatly refusing claims the performer was late for his Mania match, WWE’s Executive VP for Talent Relations and Head of Communications Chris Legentil said: “Dwayne was not only on time for WrestleMania, he was hours early to help with rehearsal — and a pleasure to work with throughout the entire run.”

At the time of writing, the multi-time former WWE champ had not directly responded to the report but did include in one wrestling related Instagram post after its release the caption: “Love and appreciate all the support.”

Following his wrestling comeback, Johnson is once again back in Hollywood, ahead of an expected further run in the ring to work with new Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes.

In the interim, he’s busy bossing the gym in readiness to portray MMA fighter Mark Kerr in his upcoming movie ‘The Smashing Machine’.
