Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes.Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes.WWE

Welcome to Bleacher Report’s live coverage and recap of WWE Raw on July 10 in Buffalo, New York.

The preview for this week’s show was light on matches and heavy on non-wrestling segments, but we did find out about two bouts before the show.

The Miz and Tommaso Ciampa engaged in a No Disqualification bout, and Imperium took on the team of Matt Riddle and Drew McIntyre.

We also saw Cody Rhodes address Brock Lesnar, Ricochet and Logan Paul had a face-to-face meeting, and Maxxine Dupri celebrated graduating from Alpha Academy.

Let’s take a look at everything that happened on Monday’s Raw.

Imperium vs. Matt Riddle and Drew McIntyre

1 of 8

Finn Balor opened the show with a promo about how Damian Priest has been the issue with Judgment Day ever since he won Money in the Bank. Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley came out to talk him into settling this backstage. Balor ended up walking to the back, leaving Ripley to give a short promo challenging anyone to step up to her.

Seth Rollins came out with a big plate of Buffalo wings and taunted his opponent for the night to get a pop from the crowd before heading to the back. Next up was McIntyre to make his entrance for his match with Riddle against Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci. Gunther was there to watch his boys do his dirty work for him.

Riddle and McIntyre seemed to be working well as a tag team early on as they kept Vinci on defense, but as soon as he was able to tag Kaiser, Imperium took control.

The Bro spent a long time in the ring taking punishment from both opponents while The Scottish Warrior paced on the apron like a predator waiting to strike. It took a few tries, but Riddle finally made the hot tag and McIntyre went on a rampage.

It’s great to see McIntyre back on TV and looking just as good in the ring as ever. His break seems to have refreshed him a bit, which is always a good thing. This was a solid opening tag team match even if the outcome was as predictable as it gets.

McIntyre won with a Claymore Kick to Vinci while Riddle held Kaiser back in an ankle lock.

Winners: Matt Riddle and Drew McIntyre

Grade: B-

Notable Moments and Observations

At this point, booing Dom is a meme. People just love to do it because of the crowd participation aspect of it. The low dropkick Kaiser used to knock Riddle out of the ring to the floor looked fantastic. Gunther reprimanding Vinci might not be a great sign for his future.

Dominik Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins, Face-to-face Showdown with Ricochet and Logan Paul

2 of 8

After having a brief confrontation with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens backstage, Dom made his way out for his match against Rollins. Mami was right by his side like she always is.

Dom and Rollins started fighting before the bell and went out into the crowd. This led to Balor and Priest attacking The Visionary from behind.

Zayn and Owens ran down to the ring and tried to help even the odds. Rollins grabbed a chair to give his side the edge and send Judgment Day packing. This led to a six-man tag bout being booked for later in the show.

Winner: The match never took place

Grade: C+

After the break, Ricochet made his way out in street clothes for his face-to-face meeting with Paul. He spoke to the crowd about trying to entertain them every time he steps through the curtain before he got to business.

He called out the social media star and it didn’t take Paul long to arrive. He insulted the city of Buffalo and said he would make this quick. He told Ricochet he was incredible but also called him a reckless amateur.

The One and Only said he was originally going to just challenge Paul to a match, but now that he is there, he just wants to hurt him. He did a front flip out of the ring and landed right in front of Paul.

He took a few swings at Ricochet before he ended up on his back from a quick takedown. This was all pretty cut and dry but it did a good job setting the stage for their eventual match at SummerSlam.

Grade: B

Notable Moments and Observations

Judgment Day was all over the first hour of this show. Not only did we get this match, but we had several backstage segments with them, too. The video package for Jinder Mahal and Indus Sher was kind of cool. It’s nuts that it has taken WWE so long to use Ricochet in a high-profile situation. Even if you hate Paul, you have to admit that he knows how to make the crowd react.

Becky Lynch vs. Zoey Stark

3 of 8

Becky Lynch and Zoey Stark met for a singles match this week, but Trish Stratus made sure to watch from ringside.

They engaged in a back-and-forth battle that saw them trade control several times before Stark knocked The Man out of the ring with a huge springboard dropkick to send the show into a break.

Giving them two full segments to work allowed them to make this a competitive match that had more than a few memorable moments. Stark made the most of this opportunity and made sure everyone who attended this show remembered her name.

After a lot of shenanigans involving Stratus at ringside, Stark was able to steal the win with a deep roll-up. The end was a little clunky but everything else about this was great.

Winner: Zoey Stark

Grade: B+

Notable Moments and Observations

Trish looked so funny with that dumb fur coat and the face mask. Stark has a nice front handspring, but her springboard dropkick might have been the most impressive move she hit. The way Lynch bridged up to her feet out of a pin was a nice callback to Stratus.

Maxxine Dupri Graduates, Shayna Baszler vs. Emma

4 of 8

Chad Gable and Otis were in the ring after a break to welcome us to Maxxine’s graduation. She gave a speech about how she came to appreciate Gable after thinking he was a little troll when they first met. The crowd hilariously started a “You deserve it” chant.

Gable presented her with an official Alpha Academy jacket before The Viking Raiders came out to break up the party. As they marched to the ring, Valhalla attacked Maxxine from behind and stole her jacket.

This was a semi-funny segment that kept the feud going with the need for another match, so it accomplished its goal.

Grade: C+

The next match saw Shayna Baszler take on Emma. A backstage moment was shown that prompted Baszler to challenge her to the match.

Emma got in a little bit of offense before Baszler beat her down and stomped on her elbow. She grabbed Emma in a Kirafuda Clutch for the easy win.

Ronda Rousey’s music hit and she walked to the ring looking like she was ready for a fight. Her former friend dared her into the ring and Rousey didn’t waste any time. The Queen of Spades avoided an armbar and left the ring as Rousey stood tall.

The match itself was just to get us to the confrontation between Rousey and Baszler, so it was nothing special. The eventual fight between Baszler and Rousey is going to be something special, but they are just filling time until then.

Winner: Shayna Baszler

Grade: C

Notable Moments and Observations

Maxxine graduated so much faster than any of the students in Chase U. Maybe that school isn’t as legitimate as it seems? The crowd was pretty quiet when Baszler and Emma got going.

Cody Rhodes Promo, The Miz vs. Tommaso Ciampa

5 of 8

The American Nightmare came out to the usual huge ovation and the crowd singing his sing, but he wasn’t here just to shake hands and kiss babies. He was there to talk about Lesnar, although he did shake plenty of hands on his way to the ring.

He got the crowd riled up and talked about his connection to the WWE Universe. This was a standard Rhodes promo. He did a good job and it ended without interruption, so it was a short segment that didn’t overstay its welcome.

Grade: B-

The next bout was between two former allies as Ciampa battled The Miz in a No Disqualification match.

Ciampa pulled The Miz out of the ring and started throwing him around before the ref could even call for the bell. It finally rang once they got into the ring and kept brawling.

For the first several minutes, the only weapon that came into play was a steel chair that Ciampa brought with him to the ring. He used it to take control right before a commercial.

The A-Lister got some heat by putting away a table that Ciampa was going to use, so Ciampa cleared off the announce table instead. They fought on top of it but never actually broke it.

The Black Heart used a trash can lid to obliterate The Miz before he set up a table in the middle of the ring. He put The Miz through it but before he could get the pin, Bronson Reed attacked him.

Reed hit the Tsunami on Ciampa and left him so The Miz could make the cover and get the win. The first half of this match didn’t do much to use the simulation, but the second half really picked up and turned this into an entertaining bout. With The Miz getting the win, we will likely see another match at some point that lets Ciampa finish this feud for good.

Winner: The Miz

Grade: B

Notable Moments and Observations

Rhodes comparing Lesnar to everyone’s biggest hurdle was a really good way to describe his dominance in a new way. Every single time the announcers say Ciampa is The Miz’s former protege, a rookie breaks their leg. The Miz launching Ciampa over the announce table with a baseball slide dropkick looked awesome.

Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green vs. Kayden Carter and Katana Chance

6 of 8

Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez watched as Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville took on Kayden Carter and Katana Chance.

WWE has been making more of an effort to build a tag team division for the women in recent months and so far, it has the promise of something to develop but still isn’t where it needs to be yet.

Green and Deville won in just a couple of minutes with a dirty pin. This wasn’t a squash, but it was close to being that way.

Winners: Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green

Grade: D+

Notable Moments and Observations

The staredown between Rodriguez and Ripley backstage is definitely going to lead to a singles match, which will be great for both women because they had some fun matches in NXT.

Owens, Zayn and Rollins vs. Mysterio, Balor and Priest

7 of 8

The main event of the night was the six-man tag match that was set up earlier in the night with Judgment Day taking on Zayn, Owens and Rollins.

The Visionary chased Dom out of the ring to get the match started. Balor tried to sucker him into an attack, but the champ saw it coming and stomped him into the corner.

Five of these guys are experienced workers and one is on his way to becoming one, so nobody was surprised when they put on a good performance to close out the show.

Everyone had a chance to be the man in control, but the main story of this match was Rollins trying to get his hands on Dom.

It came down to Zayn and Balor. Ripley grabbed Zayn’s foot to prevent a Helluva Kick, which allowed Priest to hit a chokeslam so Balor could finish him off with the Coup de Grace for the win. Balor and Priest had a big hug to end the show and establish that they are back on the same page.

Winners: Judgment Day

Grade: B

Notable Moments and Observations

The crowd was singing Zayn’s music louder than we have heard in a couple of months since his push slowed down a bit. It was great to see him get a huge ovation. It’s so easy to forget how big Rollins is until you see him next to Priest and realize they are basically the same size. Owens taking out all three members of Judgment Day and then yelling in Ripley’s face was hilarious.

The Final Word

8 of 8

This week’s Raw was heavy on the non-wrestling segments, but that is not always a bad thing when the right stories are being moved forward.

Stark and Lynch had a great showing, but the Match of the Night was surprisingly The Miz vs. Ciampa. They made good use of the No DQ stipulation during the second half to make it a chaotic encounter that left the door open for one more showdown in the future.

SummerSlam is still a few weeks away, so the feuds that have already been established are in sort of a holding pattern. As the weeks pass, we will see the card get more fleshed out so the filler segments can be kept to a minimum.

The segment that could end up getting the most attention was Paul and Ricochet’s encounter. They set the stage for a SummerSlam match. All WWE needs to do is make it official.

Grade: B-
