The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to make a considerable performance leap in Europe thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. A benchmark leak now shows that Samsung’s next-generation flagship achieves almost twice the graphics performance as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

While the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are expected to be launched in Europe with an Exynos 2400, which can barely keep up with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will likely launch globally with Snapdragon. And the performance difference could be massive, as a new Geekbench entry suggests.

In the Geekbench 6 Vulkan test, the new chip in the US version of the Galaxy S23+ achieved a remarkable 17,031 points, making it an impressive 81.6 percent faster than the Galaxy S23 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy. A look at the Geekbench Vulkan benchmark charts shows that the smartphone chip is on par with the desktop-dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050, while AMD’s fastest iGPU, the Radeon 780M, is about twice as fast as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy.

Of course, a single benchmark gives only limited information about the actual capabilities of a chip. A Geekbench run doesn’t take long enough to explore the limits of a smartphone’s cooling system, so it’s quite possible that performance will be significantly lower under prolonged load, as was the case with the Apple iPhone 15 Pro (starting at US$999 at Best Buy) and the Google Pixel 8 Pro (also US$999 at Best Buy), so this result doesn’t really provide any information about the gaming capabilities of the Galaxy S24+. Further information on the graphics performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected when the chip is launched as part of the Snapdragon Summit, which takes place between October 24-26.

Growing up in regional Australia, I first became acquainted with computers in my early teens after a broken leg from a football (soccer) match temporarily condemned me to a predominately indoor lifestyle. Soon afterwards I was building my own systems. Now I live in Germany, having moved here in 2014, where I study philosophy and anthropology. I am particularly fascinated by how computer technology has fundamentally and dramatically reshaped human culture, and how it continues to do so.
