Huawei has introduced a new version of the Smart Screen S3 Pro, its high-end Smart TV series that runs HarmonyOS 3.1. Now available as an 86-inch version, the new Smart Screen S3 Pro features a 4K and 120 Hz panel that peaks at 500 nits with 93% DCI-P3 colour space coverage. The extra size, brightness and colour accuracy come at a significant cost increase compared to the existing 75-inch variant, though.
Huawei has refreshed its Smart Screen S3 Pro series, previously available in 65-inch and 75-inch variants. Now, the company has started selling an 86-inch variant, which is also brighter and more colour accurate than its counterparts, rather than merely a larger option in the Smart Screen S3 Pro series. The new Smart Screen S3 Pro still relies on a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) IPS panel, though. As such, it will have a lower pixel density than its 65-inch and 75-inch siblings.
Additionally, the Smart Screen S3 Pro 86-inch edition maintains a 120 Hz native refresh rate. Likewise, the Smart TV has a dedicated game mode that simulates a 240 Hz refresh rate through ‘frequency doubling technology’. However, this is not true 240 Hz; 4K/240 Hz exceeds the bandwidth of its HDMI 2.1 ports too. Nonetheless, the new 86-inch edition peaks at 500 nits, 100 nits higher than the 75-inch version and 115 nits more than its 65-inch counterpart.
Moreover, the Smart Screen S3 Pro 86-inches edition delivers 93% DCI-P3 colour space coverage, marginally higher than its Smart Screen S3 Pro siblings. According to Huawei, the new Smart TV shares all other hardware with existing Smart Screen S3 Pro models, including a 1080p webcam, an NT72676 chipset, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The Smart Screen S3 Pro 86-inch edition is available in China for CNY 11,999 (~US$1,660), CNY 4,000 (~US$553) more than the retail price of its 75-inch sibling. Huawei has not confirmed whether it intends to offer the Smart Screen S3 Pro series outside its home market yet, likely meaning that the new 86-inch edition will remain a Chinese exclusive.
