Alipay Raises Transaction Limits for Foreigners: Up to $5000 Per Transaction

The State Council recently issued the ‘Opinions on Further Optimizing Payment Services to Improve Payment Convenience’, guiding payment service providers to continuously improve the convenience and satisfaction of payment services for elderly people, foreign nationals in China, and other groups.

Alipay announced that it actively responds to the relevant decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee and the State Council. With the support and guidance of the People’s Bank of China and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, Alipay is solidly advancing the implementation of various measures to continuously optimize payment services for elderly people and foreigners coming to China.

Among them, the foreign exchange transaction limit has been increased and optimized. The single transaction limit has been raised from a maximum of $1,000 to $5,000, and the annual transaction limit has been raised from a maximum of $10,000 to $50,000.

In addition, new services such as multilingual translation, overseas wallet, and the ‘one-code pass’ for taking transportation will be launched one after another.

According to reports, inbound users can download Alipay and link their international bank cards to make purchases like Chinese people. Alipay collaborates with industry partners to provide convenient online digital services, including online translation, taxi booking, hotel reservations, ticket bookings for attractions, public transportation rides, power bank rentals, currency exchange rates inquiries etc., providing comprehensive support for foreign friends to travel freely in China with just a mobile phone.

At the same time, through Ant Group’s Alipay+ cross-border digital payment and marketing solutions, it also supports 10 overseas wallet users to directly scan and pay upon entry.

Including AlipayHK (Hong Kong, China), Touch ‘n Go eWallet (Malaysia), Kakao Pay (South Korea), MPay (Macau, China), HiPay (Mongolia), Changi Pay (Singapore), Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited – OCBC Bank (Singapore), Naver Pay (South Korea), Toss Pay (South Korea) and TrueMoney (Thailand).

Alipay stated that it will continue to enhance the convenience of payment for elderly people, foreigners in China and other groups, deepen service scenario construction, enrich payment service supply, and continuously improve the level of payment services.
