86.4% Apple iMac 27 Mid 2020 Review: The All-in-One gets a matte display | Notebookcheck
In addition to several hardware upgrades, Apple’s all-in-one system is also available with a matte display for the first time. But is it really worth the additional price and how do the other components perform?

Apple iMac 24 M1 2021

The latest iMac 24 M1 is not only an impressive improvement over its predecessor in almost every way, it is also the boldest reinvention of Apple’s iconic all-in-one Mac for almost 15 years. It features a whole new look that seems to be both sleek and modern, and it is a very welcome update, as the previous design was beginning to feel rather stale.

As far as its design is concerned, this model has a slightly more rectangular design that is reminiscent of the latest iPhones, and is thinner and more compact than ever, thanks in large part to the inclusion of the Apple M1 chip that powers this iMac. Basically, this has allowed Apple to drastically shrink down the Logic Board, reducing the volume of the iMac by 50%, resulting to a size of 11.5mm thin. In addition, the total footprint of the new iMac has been reduced by 30%, with dimensions of 18.1 x 21.5 x 5.8 inches (46.1 x 54.7 x 14.7cm).

Apart from that, the device is also significantly lighter, at 4.48kg (9.88 pounds) as compared to the 5.68kg (12.52 pounds) of the previous 21.5-inch iMac. This simply means that when the new iMac is taken out of the box, the biggest design change one will notice is how light this iMac really is. It is quite impressive, and combined with the reduced depth and footprint, it really means that the new iMac can be easily carried around, and installed almost anywhere in a home or office setting.

By their nature, it is a known fact that all-in-one PCs are more compact and easier to set up than traditional PCs, as there is no need to connect cables to a monitor, and thanks to the wireless keyboard and mouse included with the new iMac (and the Magic Touchpad in some configurations), the user only need to plug in one cable to set up and run the power supply.

In terms of its performance, well, it is not just on the outside that Apple has made big changes to the iMac 24, as this is the first iMac to run on the Apple M1 chip. It is also worth mentioning that this is the same chip that powers the Mac mini (M1, 2020), MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1, 2020) and the MacBook Air (M1, 2020), and also replaces the Intel processors that previously powered the iMac.

Apart from that, the iMac 24’s webcam has also been improved. It is a 1080p FaceTime camera, which is an instant upgrade over the 720p camera found in the 21.5-inch model. Along with the resolution boost, it has a much larger sensor for better low-light performance, while the advanced image signal processor (ISP) feature of the M1 chip significantly boosts the image quality. Overall, this leads to a generally excellent image from the built-in webcam, with excellent colours, high clarity and very little lag. In a nutshell, it is a great device to be explored, depending on the need and preference of the user.
