Those using an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max as a camera phone now finally have the option of saving photos directly to an SD memory card or external SSD instead of the iPhone’s internal storage, enabling entirely new workflows.

If photos are saved in ProRAW with the 48 megapixel main camera of the Apple iPhone 15 Pro, a single image requires around 75 MB of memory. Anyone who uses the iPhone as a camera and takes photos at events or weddings, for example, can quickly accumulate dozens of gigabytes of data. With the help of Photon Camera, it is now possible to save this data directly to an external USB-C SSD after users update to version 1.7.1, which was recently released.

This feature is only compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, but not the cheaper iPhone 15.
Photon Camera gives users the freedom to choose whether to save photos as JPEG, HEIF, RAW or ProRAW. The app allows full manual control of the camera system, including manual focus and focus peaking. A real-time histogram is intended to help you find the perfect exposure; under- and overexposed areas can be highlighted.
