The new BIOS updates for the X670 mobos from Asus and ASRock include detailed specs for the upcoming Ryzen 8000G series. ASRock even shows a CPU-Z screen with the Ryzen 7 8700G coupled with 256 GB of DDR5 RAM.
Asus and ASRock have inadvertently confirmed that the upcoming Phoenix-based desktop CPUs from AMD will be launched under the Ryzen 8000G series. Specs for the entire Ryzen 8000G lineup slipped into some Asus mobo specs, while ASRock went ahead and included CPU-Z screens showing detailed specs for the top-of-the-line Ryzen 7 8700G with the recent announcement on the X670 BIOS update that adds support for 256 GB DDR5-7200 RAM capacities.
Since these models bear the new 8000 denominators just like the “Hawk Point” laptop-grade models, they are expected to include the newer Phoenix 3 and 4 architecture updates rather than the original 1 and 2 versions from earlier this year. The top models will feature full performance core setups, whereas the lower-end models will integrate performance+efficiency core clusters. Moreover, the top 2 models will feature the upgraded NPUs from the laptop-grade processors.
The Asus leak presents four distinct models:
Ryzen 3 8300G – 4 cores (1 P-core + 3 E-cores), 3.45 GHz base clock, 8 MB L3 cache, 65 W TDPRyzen 5 8500G – 6 cores (2 P-cores + 4 E-cores), 3.35 GHz base clock, 16 MB L3 cache, 65 W TDPRyzen 5 8600G – 8 cores, 4.35 GHz base clock, 16 MB L3 cache, 65 W TDPRyzen 7 8700G – 8 cores, 4.2 GHz base clock, 16 MB L3 cache, 65 W TDP
Asus may have incorrectly cited 8 cores on the Ryzen 5 8600G. This model probably comes with 6 cores instead, seeing that the base clocks are higher than the Ryzen 7 model. AMD will introduce PRO versions too at some point. Unfortunately, Asus does not provide iGPU information, so the number of CUs remains to be confirmed hopefully at CES 2024.
