On the afternoon of July 4th, BYD held a ceremony for the completion of its factory in Loei Province, Thailand and the production of its 8 millionth new energy vehicle. Thai Minister of Industry Pingpara Weechakun, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Han Zhiqiang, Secretary-General of the Thailand Board of Investment Narit Thasatirasath and BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu attended the ceremony.
According to the introduction, it took only 16 months for BYD’s Thailand factory to go from construction to production. The annual production capacity is about 150,000 vehicles, including four major vehicle manufacturing processes and component factories, replicating the new energy vehicle industry chain overseas. At the same time, BYD has become the world’s first car manufacturer to reach a milestone of producing 8 million new energy vehicles. The Dolphin model was unveiled at the Thailand factory as part of this achievement.
BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu expressed his gratitude on the spot to the governments of China and Thailand, as well as to the vast number of users and partners in Thailand for their strong support. He stated that BYD has rapidly gained recognition in the Thai market within just two years since its establishment there, having been crowned as the best-selling pure electric vehicle brand for eighteen consecutive months. Currently, for every three pure electric vehicles sold in Thailand, one is a BYD vehicle. In the future, BYD will introduce more pure electric vehicle models in Thailand and also bring in plug-in hybrid models to combine Thailand’s automotive manufacturing capabilities with BYD’s new energy technologies, thereby supporting the transformation and upgrading of Thailand’s automotive industry chain.
In recent years, BYD has vigorously expanded its overseas market. In 2023, BYD’s passenger car export sales reached 243,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 337%. In the first half of this year, BYD’s new energy passenger car sales reached 1.607 million units, a year-on-year increase of 28.8%, with overseas sales exceeding 203,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 173.8%. Currently, BYD’s new energy vehicles have been sold in more than 88 countries and regions worldwide and over 400 cities. Apart from Thailand, BYD also has passenger car production bases in countries such as Brazil, Hungary and Uzbekistan.
