The government of Western Australia announced on September 19th that it has signed a contract with China’s CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited) to provide containerized liquid-cooled battery systems for the Kwinana Battery second-stage project and Collie Battery project. Spain’s Power Electronics will supply inverters for both projects. The statement indicates that these contracts are worth over 1 billion Australian dollars (approximatly ＄0.65 billion) in total.
The Kwinana Battery second-stage project started in June and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. It will provide 200 megawatts of power and 800 megawatt-hours of energy storage. The Collie Battery will be the largest battery project in Western Australia, capable of providing 500 megawatts of power and 2000 megawatt-hours of energy storage.
