HiPhi, a Chinese electric vehicle startup, announced a six-month production halt on February 18, the first day back to work after the Lunar New Year holiday. The company did not disclose the reasons for the decision.
Founded in 2019, HiPhi has launched two models, the HiPhi X and HiPhi Z. However, the company has struggled in the Chinese market with disappointing sales. This production halt poses a significant setback, and it remains unclear whether they can resume production after six months.
According to reports, HiPhi employees will receive their regular salaries until February 18. After that, employees who stay with the company will only receive base pay, and those in Shanghai will only receive the local minimum wage after March 15. Previously, HiPhi also announced delayed January salaries, cancelled year-end bonuses, and company-wide pay cuts.
