Those looking to try out Diablo IV can now do so via Steam. The character levels are capped at 20, and further progression requires you to purchase the game. It is also on sale at a 40% discount.

Diablo IV was the first of many Battle.net-exclusive games to land on Steam. The transition wasn’t particularly smooth as it received scathing reviews at launch, and the worst part is that they had little to do with the actual launch and ripped the game apart for its lack of content and egregious in-app purchases. Nonetheless, those looking to dip their toes in Blizzard’s latest ARPG can do so for free until November 28, but only on PC.

There is, however, one major caveat in the Diablo IV free-to-play promotion. Players can only upgrade their characters up to level 20, similar to the open beta era. It is enough to get a rough idea about various skill trees and progressions. If you install the game now, you can easily try out all five classes (Barbarian, Druid, Sorceress, Rogue and Necromancer) and still have some time left over.

Diablo IV is also available for a 40% discount on Steam. The “Ultimate” and “Deluxe” versions aren’t really worth it now because all they offer now is some in-game cosmetics and a “premium” battle pass, which unlocks more cosmetics. Any progress made during the free-to-play period carries over should you decide to buy the game. A Battle.net ID (and a steady internet connection) will still be required to install and play Diablo IV.
