The Renault 5 E-Tech is slated to launch in 2024, and it takes inspiration from the spirit of the first Renault 5 from back in 1972. The adorable little electric hatchback measures just 3.92 metres and will have a 52 kWh battery pack, delivering 400 km (249 miles) of range on the WLTP cycle.
The upcoming Renault 5 EV has long promised to deliver the fun driving experience typical of a small, lightweight hatchback without compromising too much on practicality or range. Renault, however, has been rather tight-lipped about the vehicle, releasing information in dribs and drabs ahead of its debut at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show.
The latest teaser to come out of the French car brand gives us a good idea of what to expect from the vehicle in terms of styling and range. Although exact drivetrain configurations remain a mystery — although a previous press release seems to show a front-wheel-drive drivetrain — Renault has confirmed that the Renault 5 E-Tech will launch with a 52 kWh battery, with a 40 kWh pack joining the lineup later.
The 52 kWh battery promises up to 400 km (249 miles) of range in the WLTP cycle, putting it in a solid position to compete with the newly-refreshed Mini Cooper SE and even the standard-range RWD Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6.
Renault also shared a number of close-up images teasing the Renault 5 E-Tech’s visuals and showing off some interesting design elements. For one, the bonnet features a raised charging indicator light that pays homage to the air intake from the classic Renault 5 Turbo.
The rest of the exterior photos demonstrate a decidedly retro-futures-inspired design, with much of what made the Renault 5 EV concept special still intact. This includes sharp, simple lines, wide wheel arches, and
The Renault 5 E-Tech will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show on February 26, and a €150 R5 R Pass acts as a sort of reservation fee for those that want to skip the queue in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

My interest in tech started in high school, rooting and flashing my Motorola Defy, but I really fell down the rabbit hole when I realised I could overclock the i7 930 in my Gigabyte pre-built PC. This tinkering addiction eventually lead me to study product design in university. I think tech should improve the lives of the people using it, no matter the field. I like to read and write about laptops, smartphones, software and trends in technology.
