Helena Bonham Carter as Noele Gordon in Nolly.ITVX/PBS

Compared to the first two months of 2024, PBS has a lighter schedule of premieres in March. But what it does have is very impressive, including the U.S. premiere of Nolly, with Helena Bonham Carter (pictured above) starring in this bio miniseries about a famous British actress, Noele “Nolly” Gordon. Additionally, the new drama Alice & Jack is making its premiere this month, while the hit British series Call the Midwife returns for season 13.

Antiques Roadshow isn’t listed below because season 28 is already in progress. But new episodes of Antiques Roadshow will premiere on March 11 and March 25. PBS NewsHour is also covering the Super Tuesday primaries on March 5 before shifting the focus to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union on March 7. There are also new documentary specials scattered throughout the month.

If you missed the best shows on PBS from February, you can still stream those online. But you will have to wait for the premiere dates listed below to catch everything coming to PBS in March.

The cast of Call the Midwife season 13.BBC/PBS

Premieres: Sunday, March 17

Call the Midwife explores complex medical and personal situations on the midwifery and district nursing rounds. It is now 1969, and the period drama returns with Poplar coping with the popularity of home births under the auspices of the Sisters. Season 13 will also see stories of poor housing challenges and health issues for the nurses, midwives, and nuns of the Nonnatus House.

Nolly on Masterpiece

Premieres: Sunday, March 17

The Crown‘s Helena Bonham Carter stars as soap opera legend Noele “Nolly” Gordon, one of the most famous faces on British TV in the 1960s and 70s, whose unceremonious firing from her hit show at the height of her career was front-page news. A bold exploration of how the establishment turns on women who refuse to play by the rules, Nolly is an outrageously fun and wildly entertaining ride through Gordon’s most tumultuous years, and a sharp, affectionate, and heartbreaking portrait of a forgotten icon. Nolly was written by Russell T. Davies.

Alice & Jack on Masterpiece

Domhnall Gleeson and Andrea Riseborough in Alice & Jack.Channel 4/PBS

Premieres: Sunday, March 17

When Alice (Riseborough) and Jack (Gleeson) first meet, they’re bound by a connection so powerful it seems nothing can break it, but will their path lead them to a place of happiness and togetherness? Or will life and their own emotional complexities get in the way? Honest, intimate, and surprisingly funny, the series shows love in all its unexpected, technicolor, kaleidoscopic beauty.

Correspondent Miles O’Brien meets scientists using the latest algorithms to accelerate discovery in fields from medicine to climate change–some even using AI to build O’Brien a new robotic arm–and explores how humanity can avoid the worst potential impacts of powerful technologies that, in some ways, we don’t fully understand.
